On the 23rd July, Sue Hogg from Go Girl Go for IT and Robogals Melbourne collaborated to deliver a presentation for 90 year 8 to year 11 female students at the Digital Learning Victoria showcase. The presentation aimed to give the students more information about IT and engineering and inspire the girls to consider these as a career option. During the presentation Sue listed many inspirational female role models for the girls and showed the students the rapid change and improvements of today's technology. The representatives from Robogals Melbourne, Qalissa and Shirley introduced different disciplines of engineering and ran an interactive robotic demonstration, which featured everyone's favourite, the robot puppy, the Segway robot and the Rubik’s cube solver.
From the survey conducted during the presentation, we found the students are more interested in 3D printing, laser cutting and robotic programs. These new technology trends will be great learning materials for students and should be targeted as interactive activities for future events.
Overall, the presentations were very successful and we received very positive feedback from both teachers and students.
